External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS)

Application

VINNAPAS® dispersible powders and VINNAPAS® dispersions provide external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) with a wider range of benefits.

ETICS

Specific Benefits

  • Improved adhesion to various substrates, thus increasing flexibility and impact strength of the system
VINNAPAS_RGB_r_blue

Technical Support

The three EOTA Test Centers worldwide offer testing for thermal insulation composite systems under different weathering conditions. ETICS test walls are built according to customer specifications which are then exposed to various weathering cycles.

Exterior Plasters

Application

VINNAPAS® polymer binders improve the quality of plasters. They enhance adhesion and flexibility and help prevent weathering damage. Specific grades of VINNAPAS® dispersible polymer powder are available to increase water resistance. VINNAPAS® dispersions exhibit excellent color stability in pigmented RTU formulations.

Specific Benefits

  • Improved adhesion to a broad variety of different substrates

  • Increased impact resistance

Technical Support

Plasters on facades can get easily damaged by balls or bicycle handlebars. In this test, the highspeed camera reveals the benefits of polymer modification of plasters: impact resistance is greatly enhanced.

Sustainability Impact

Polymer modification strengthens the impact resistance of walls and structures. It helps prevent cracks and water ingress, which deteriorates the wall and decreases energy efficiency. Polymer modification thus supports durability and energy efficiency. This is part of our strategy to provide more value with fewer resources.

Our solutions for plasters are part of our sustainability strategic pillar "VALUE UP" and support United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) No. 11 and No. 13.

Exterior Skim Coat / Wall Putty

Application

VINNAPAS® polymer-modified, flexible skim coat/wall putty is recommended for external walls, as its advanced flexibility can prevent crack formation due to tension resulting from hygrothermal changes.

The result is increased weathering resistance and longevity of the building facade.

Hydrophobic skim coat/wall putty can further enhance weathering resistance by making paint less susceptible to peeling, flaking, blistering and other water related damage.

Please note that hydrophobic skim coat/wall putty is not a substitute for a waterproofing membrane.

Specific Benefits

  • Enhanced flexibility to resist the large temperature differences
  • Can help prevent crack formation due to tension resulting from hygrothermal changes.
VINNAPAS_RGB_r_blue

Technical Support

WACKER conducts comprehensive tests with regard to all the critical requirements for achieving an effective skim coat/wall putty, with tests covering the following:

  1. Workability
  2. Abrasion resistance
  3. Crack resistance
  4. Flexural test
  5. Chalking test
  6. Tensile adhesion strength
  7. Paint adhesion and coverage
  8. Water absorption coefficient (hydrophobicity)

The ball test conducted after conditioning for 14 d under standard climate conditions with an impact force of 7 joules. As you can see, VINNAPAS® greatly enhances the impact resistance of a skim coat/wall putty.

Sustainability Impact

Depending on the formulation, the addition of VINNAPAS® dispersible polymer powders could have a positive impact on the customer’s carbon footprint, since skim coat/wall putty modified with VINNAPAS® requires less cement than non-polymer-modified cementitious skim coat/wall putty.
Skim coat/wall putty modified with VINNAPAS® improves durability and reduces maintenance.
Repainting a wall requires less material and time if the surface consists of skim coat/wall putty modified with VINNAPAS®.

Little to no efflorescence will make the wall finish more durable.

Our solutions for interior skim coat/wall putty are part of our “VALUE UP” sustainability strategic pillar and support United Nations Sustainable Developments Goals (SDG) No. 12 and No. 13.

Exterior Primers

Application

Primers are essential to ensure the long-term stability of layered building systems. For outdoor applications, we recommend hydrophobic VINNAPAS® dispersions.

Specific Benefits

  • Easy processing with short drying time
  • Excellent crack-bridging
  • Can be painted or plastered
VINNAPAS_RGB_r_blue

Technical Support

At our innovative facilities in Burghausen, Germany, we diligently verify methods that adhere to a wide range of standards - such as the tensile adhesion bond strength on non-porous substrates.

With VINNAPAS® silanized S/A dispersions, primers on non-absorbing substrates reach an adhesion strength of up to ~3.5 N/mm2

Mode of failure is cohesive in the substrate
